Could we start with some background information about you? Where you grow up, where you based, how did you get interested in photography?

Of course, I grew up in Madrid, Spain but I live in New York. Since I was little I always had an attraction to music and fashion, I even remember that I loved theater and puppets and I think that has a certain connection, as a result of my being a teenager, I was able to discover and investigate more and define my personal tastes. In fashion, I started 10 years ago in a modeling agency as a commercial model, although I was much more attracted to being behind the scenes and teach models how to pose in front of a camera or how to walk on a runway, I ended up being the Runway Coach of the agency.

Por supuesto, crecí en Madrid, España pero vivo en Nueva York. Desde pequeño siempre tuve atracción por la música y la moda, incluso recuerdo que me encantaba el teatro y las marionetas y creo que eso tiene cierta conexión, como resultado de mi adolescencia pude descubrir e investigar más y definir mis gustos personales. En moda, comencé hace 10 años en una agencia de modelos como modelo comercial, aunque me atraía mucho más estar detrás de escena y enseñar a las modelos cómo posar frente a una cámara o cómo caminar en una pasarela, terminé siendo el Runway Coach de la agencia.

Born in Spain but working in the USA. How difficult was it to adapt to a new country?

I believe that I have a certain capacity of adaptation in all aspects, whether professionally or in life itself, and I think that’s what it’s all about, discovering your purpose. Knowing how to adapt in any situation no matter how difficult it is, as long as you are clear about wanting to achieve your goal.

Creo que tengo cierta capacidad de adaptación en todos los aspectos, ya sea profesionalmente o en la vida misma, creo que de eso se trata, de descubrir tu propósito. Saber adaptarse a cualquier situación no importa que difícil que sea, siempre y cuando tengas claro sobre querer conseguir tus metas.

Did you always know photography was your ultimate go-to outlet of expression?

I have discovered it over the years that it was my vehicle to express my ideas and thoughts through photography and above all, wanting to show the essence of each person.

There is always time and learning for someone to find their own style. That you remember back, was something of a turning point from your photos are started to be “Desintonio Pacheco photography”?

When I started in photography I didn’t have a particular style, I simply captured moments which I wanted to perpetuate and express with them.
But the year 2019 came where I had a turning point about which path I wanted to take, whether to be a fashion, portrait, or event photographer.

Before this, people knew me by the name that I used since I was young and which I had chosen for my blog, but I understood that this change had to be something personal and that people knew me for it, so I put my surnames ¨Desintonio Pacheco¨ to make it sound unique, and sometimes something difficult to pronounce but I love it, although my first name is Jorge.

Find out more in which style most closely resembled my personality and pull files inspired by photographers who have had a legacy. I identified with the style of Peter Lindbergh, for its contrast so pronounced that it magnetizes and where he concentrates all the attention and on the most basic elements, such as the eyes of the model. or just the delicate pose of a hand. Something so simple but beautiful at the same time.

Cuando inicié en la fotografía no tenía un estilo en particular, simplemente capturaba momentos que quería perpetuar y expresar con ellos. Pero llegó el año 2019 en el que tuve un punto de inflexión sobre qué camino quería tomar, si ser fotógrafo de moda, retrato o eventos. Antes de esto, la gente me conocía por el nombre que usaba desde joven y que había elegido para mi blog, pero entendí que este cambio tenía que ser algo personal y que la gente me conocía por ello, así que puse mis apellidos ¨Desintonio Pacheco¨ para que suene único, ya veces algo difícil de pronunciar pero me encanta, aunque mi primer nombre es Jorge. Indagaue que estilo se parecia más a mi personalidad y tire de archivos inspirados en fotógrafos que han tenido un legado. Me identifiqué con el estilo de Peter Lindbergh, por su contraste tan pronunciado que magnetiza y concentra toda la atención en los elementos más básicos, como los ojos de la modelo. o simplemente la delicada pose de una mano. Algo tan simple pero hermoso al mismo tiempo.

What is the best thing to being a photographer?

For me it is the depth of this path, which I can use my imagination and capture it through my lens, something beautiful that always reflects the beauty and passion of each moment and be able to share it in the form of photos.

Para mí, es la profundidad de esta via, en la que puedo usar mi imaginación y capturarlo a través de mi lente, algo hermoso que siempre refleja la belleza y pasión de cada momento y poder compartirlo en forma de fotos.

You also shoot at fashion shows, where the control is not in your hands. What do you like about these events?

What I always love about fashion shows is the power to capture the work and creativity that human beings have to make a collection with a different theme each season, to see with what dedication and so delicate the makeup artists do their work, the adrenaline that is breathed in the environment, that everything turns out great in the short time you have to capture everything. Be it backstage or on the catwalk.

Lo que siempre me ha gustado de los desfiles de moda es el poder captar el trabajo y la creatividad que el ser humano tiene para hacer una colección con un tema diferente cada temporada, el ver con qué dedicación y con qué delicadeza los maquilladores hacen su trabajo, la adrenalina que se respira el ambiente, que todo salga genial en el poco tiempo que tienes para capturarlo todo. Ya sea en el backstage o en la pasarela.

Do you have a favorite era of fashion?

I believe that each era has its something special. The 80’s/90’s was phenomenal, Martin Margiela in his early androgynous designs or maybe a Vivienne Westwood with her colorful Punk-Rock style that characterizes her, without leaving behind the elegance and fantasy that Thierry Mugler had in each collection. But I like to live in the present since it is my era and seeing as designers like Palomo Spain where reflects that modernity of the man of today mixed with something from the baroque era with feminine touches attracted me a lot. I am also fascinated with Willy Chavarria, with a defined and marked style where he shows a diversity with oversized garments and Chicano influences. But without a doubt my favorites are The Blonds, the wonderful New York duo where glamour and fantasy are always part of each collection, it is a luxury to appreciate.

Creo que cada época tiene algo especial. La década de los 80’s /90’s fue fenomenal, Martin Margiela en sus primeros diseños andróginos o tal vez una Vivienne Westwood con su colorido estilo punk-rock que la caracteriza, sin dejar atrás la elegancia y fantasía que Thierry Mugler tenía en cada colección. Pero me gusta vivir el presente porque es mi época y ver como diseñadores como Palomo España donde refleja que la modernidad del hombre de hoy, mezclada con algo de la época barroca con toques femeninos me atrae mucho. También me fascina Willy Chavarria, con un estilo definido y marcado donde muestra una diversidad con prendas oversize e influencias chicanas. Pero sin duda mis favoritos son The Blonds, el duo neoyorkino maravilloso donde el glamour y la fantasía siempre es parte en cada colección, es un lujo de apreciar.

Who have been your biggest influences in your career?

For me, music is essential in my work, whether editing photos or in a photoshoot since the rhythm connects me with what I want to express. And for me my biggest influence is Janet Jackson, she fascinates me with her style of music, her lyrics and the different concepts that she always imposes every time she puts out a record. But what to say about her dances and her hand movements. But above all, what I respect the most about it is her perseverance value from a young age and the discipline with which she has managed her career over the years. And even at the most difficult moment of her career she went ahead and showed courage and empowerment, that’s an amazing thing to admire. And if I could recommend a song by her it would be ¨Enjoy¨.

Para mí, la música es fundamental en mi trabajo, ya sea editando fotos o en una sesión de fotos ya que el ritmo me conecta con lo que quiero expresar. Y para mí mi mayor influencia es Janet Jackson, me fascina con su estilo de música, sus letras y los diferentes conceptos que siempre impone cada vez que saca un disco. Pero qué decir de sus bailes y sus movimientos de manos. Pero sobre todo, lo que más respeto de ella es su valor de perseverancia desde muy joven y la disciplina con la que ha manejado su carrera a lo largo de los años. E incluso en el momento más difícil de su carrera, siguió adelante y mostró coraje y empoderamiento, eso es algo asombroso para admirar. Y si pudiera recomendar una canción de ella sería ¨Enjoy¨.

Do you work alone or with a team?

It depends, if it is a personal project I work alone but if it is an editorial project I have a work team.

Depende, si es un proyecto personal trabajo solo pero si es un proyecto editorial tengo un equipo de trabajo.

If you could tell your younger self one piece of advice what would it be?

The advice for the Little Jorgito it would be; never give up. Life is about that. Overcome the obstacles that arise and learn from them for when the opportunities come, you are prepared but above all, trust yourself we just live only once but never, never, never stop dreaming.

El consejo para el Pequeño Jorgito sería; no te rindas nunca. La vida se trata de eso. supera los obstáculos que surgen y aprende de ellos para que cuando lleguen las oportunidades estés preparado. Sobre todo confía en ti mismo, solo vivimos una sola vez pero nunca, nunca, nunca dejes de soñar.

What do you do when you got time for yourself?

I recently went back to the gym and started to workout, I like to watch movies, walk in the woods, spend time with my family, meditate or maybe have an evening of wines with a good aroma and candles around.

Hace poco volví al gimnasio y comencé a hacer ejercicio, me gusta ver películas, caminar por el bosque, pasar tiempo con mi familia, meditar o tal vez tener una velada de vinos con buen aroma y velas alrededor.
