“My entire work is always influenced by the classical and religious paintings of art history. I am working usually with airbrush, acrylic, spraypaint and gold painting on canvas. I propose a sarcastic and provocative vision of what was considered sacred, and create new stories from what has existed. I am mixing a classical style of painting, with modern codes and techniques.
Those religious characters are doing unusual gestures that would never be seen in sacred art, mostly in sexual themes. I want to create an image, a new sacred icon, completely offset with the first religious purpose. I am mixing ancient codes used in those icons with our modern ones, that did not exists at this time, to recontextualise the spirituality. This intends to show the gap between the conservatism of the old context and the liberty we are proning in our modern age. This is a proposition to destroy the barriers of old conservatism for liberty.” – Camille
