A little experimentation with colours and shapes – introducing artworks by Alex Ibsen. Cover picture: Get Away From Me.
“I’m Alex Ibsen, I’m and artist living in Miami, FL. I make work that is an intersection of painting, fibers, video and collage. Before Miami, I lived in Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles. I received my BFA from CalArts in Valencia, CA and my MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. I have shown work in Miami, South Florida, Philadelphia, New York, Los Angeles, Madrid, Lisbon and Alicante. I am easily enchanted by patterns and sensuality, and both show up in my work in various ways. I also have deep love for geography and mysticism, although they don’t show up in my work as much as I would like them to. Some of my biggest influences are Sigmar Polke, Lucas Samaras, Jack Goldstein, Sterling Ruby, Bruce LaBruce and Rumi; as well as the films Liquid Sky, Cafe Flesh, Don’t Look Now, Lady From Shanghai, and Wild Things.” -Alex
