“What is my position in the canon of nude photography? This question was the starting point of this series. Finding an own style and narrative in this genre of photography is quite overwhelming. The pressure of a whole legacy is on my shoulders. Therefore, these photos are visual studies.
As an (amateur) photographer I am specialized in street photography with a focus on the banal. Banal has no pejorative meaning. It is the study of the beauty of the everyday. I am mainly interested in the beauty of everyday materials/situations and everyday men I meet on the street.
Still, I felt the urge to enter into a dialogue with staged nude photography. This with respect for the banal. That’s why the photos were taken in my living room without any advanced equipment. Just my 35mm camera, a ring light, my furniture and a guy I met at a party.” – Nils
