Colors and forms, water paintings by Russian artist, Grisha Nikiforov.
“My art is a protection of a free queer spirit fiercely owning its gorgeous liberation and power. I am inspired by wet aquarelle flow, passionate pencil line motions, and believing in human honesty, sensuality, love, tenderness, and care. Imaginary creatures on these papers are supporting each other in their fluid dance and sexual exposure. This erotic dreaming helps me to feel proud, beautiful, touchable, and lovable.
Unfortunately, in Russia, LGBT+ expressions are violently attacked. As a queer person and an artist, I feel oppression and fear that my drawings of male nudity may not be understood (in case that my passport and my biological characteristics indicate that I am a guy). I try to find the courage to break gender boundaries, dress up, use makeup and nail polish, and share my art on Russian social media. And I wish I had more space to do and to think bigger.
From my very heart, I embrace every artistic expression and kindness with my arms full of light.” – Grisha
