Dreamlike, but also hyper realistic graphite artworks on paper by Chilean artist, Ignacio Henríquez. “Existential Categories of my body” as he says, which is a selection of old and new works, representing a diverse category of his current existence with his newfound sexuality and dealings with memories of childhood sexual abuse. Cover picture: Broken existence / Hunt.
Felipe Quiroz, channeling Ignacio Henríquez
This is my archive. Here amongst the marks that sink
into my skin I build a materiality saturated with my
memories. I look at that stony vigil that immobilizes me,
the one that is fed by the dreamlike language of time
and that drags me to the poignant inner experience.
one that I try to ignore at all costs.
Oh, that corporal humiliation, you wanted to deprive
me of my flesh, do something to me, try to erase my
name so that I cannot be named, but here I am. Among
the marks of the malevolent betrayal I try to find my
design, one that borders you and condemns you to
oblivion.
It is not a duel, these account-scars that are nailed in
my back do not know of deaths, but of expiations. I
carry with me that file built from scraps of my own
skin, triumphant images of the silent truth that lives in
my flesh.
