Joel Small, dancer-artist captured in Berlin by Tobias Brust on 35mm film. Joel is currently working on a piece titled “Sex S(c)ells”, which is a poetic audio-visual commentary on the sexualization and commodification of a dancer’s body.
How the same body can perform on the world’s most prestigious stages for the bourgeoisie, while confronting the reality that in an online world, sex sells! Does this cheapen the dancer’s body? Is it a way to claim ownership of the body? The photos that Tobias took can be seen as a “making of”/behind the scenes kind of thing, however some of them will possibly be part of his performance as well.
