#tb to the Summer of 2020, captured by Greek photographer, Yiorgos Xypolitos
“With this series I’m exploring the gay greek summer as Athenians explore it and especially now during the pandemic. Most pictures were taken at the gay nudist beach of Kineta, where there’s a lot of small private hideouts that gives you a feeling of voyeurism. For me personally nudism helped me love my body type more and set me free from insecurities while getting behind the camera in a safe environment like this made me much more sensitive about privacy and consent. The shadows and light leaks were done in purpose to create a feeling of irregularity and also nostalgia as it feels like it’s a different era and place, while the grain of the film is perfect to convey the summer sluggishness.
For the series I used an SLR Fujica 705w and by manipulating the aperture I managed to create these black shadows while by slightly opening the cover got the light leaks.” – Yiorgos
About Yiorgos:
I’m Yiorgos and I live in Athens. I don’t consider myself an artist but more of a guy exploring and tapping in everything I find interesting. I used my mom’s old SLR camera with which I learned about aperture and shutter speed in the early 90s, because of her not approving my homosexuality I used her camera, although I own several other film ones, as a tribute to my struggle as a kid growing up in a homophobic family.
