Happy to feature this series, inspired by Japanese homoerotic painter Sadao Hasagawa, James Bidgood, Pierre et Gilles and Bob Mizer. Captured by Los Angeles based hair/make up artist/photographer Mike Fernandez.
“This series is dedicated to the one that inspired it, Sadao Hasagawa. Born in 1945, he is regarded as one of the most influential creators of homoertic art in Japan. Works of elaborate fantasy settings, elements of Japanese, Balinese, Thai, Tibetan Buddhist, African and Indian art. Towards the end of his career he had a greater focus on Asian iconography and mythology in his art. In 1999 he died by suicide in Thailand. His artwork was initially disposed of by his family but thankfully many works were recovered upon the discovery of a note granting ownership to a gallery in Tokyo. That gallery now holds the majority of Hasagawa’s collected works. ” – Mike
