All nude self portraits, but not traditional in terms of the crop – feature ‘Crust’ words/photography/body by Elvis Maynard.
CRUST
I’m here
I’m isolated, but
I’m here
An audience of one
Maker and viewer sharing one body
Routine provides structure
In a broken system
Ritual soothes
Holds the cracks together
And gives purpose
I catch my reflexion
The skin is tired
I should apply clay
To pull out the bad
And keep in the good
Time dares me to dare
And as I spread the paste
My fingers ignore the limit
Of the jaw
Of the neck
My hand explores
I watch myself in the mirror
Rediscovering the texture of me
I cover myself
All of it
It dries
And pulls
And makes me aware
Of the layer that connects everything
To everything
I am the cracked salt flats
Of Death Valley
I am a jagged cliff
In the Atlas Mountains
But I’m here
