PAOLO PESCE

Introduce Paolo Pesce photography from Santiago, Chile.

“I find most of the men I shoot on Grindr and I talk to them only because of photography, so they are practically strangers when I get to their places for the shooting. What I like is getting to know them and making them open up about themselves for a while, and I think this couldn’t be possible if they weren’t naked. I make a distinction between nakedness and nudity (“A naked body has to be seen as an object in order to become a nude. Nakedness reveals itself. Nudity is placed on display. To be naked is to be without disguises” -John Berger). So what I try to capture is the intimacy that comes from the models allowing themselves to be tender and vulnerable while naked (contrary to hegemonic masculinity saying men have to be tough, strong, independent) and I think it’s really magic getting this close with a stranger, and that’s what I try to show with my photographs.” – Paolo
