JORGE RICO

Joan, Virginia and Yonobi – trans friends captured by Spanish photographer Jorge Rico on a beach of San Pol de Mar. Exclusive series for Pineapple.

“We are at an unprecedented time. Trans people are being celebrated as beautiful and desirable on mainstream media, and that is something worth discussing. Sexuality that is not fetishized, trans bodies seen as sexy and loveable, trans bodies seen in a more natural, innocent light.
For years transness equaled forbbidden desire, now we can be in the light, now we get to explore our sexuality in our own terms, on different Queer narratives, more free and complex than we were ever allowed to be. We are getting transfemine character Jules (played by Hunter Scahefer) exploring their sexuality in HBO’s Euphoria, Pose’s Indya Moore being non binary excellence and refusing to tuck in a Calvin Klein ad that is being exhibited worldwide. As well as many other trans people being excellent and recognized for it (such as Sophie, Kim Petras, Angelica Ross, Munroe Bergdorf…)
It’s the moment to shine, its time for trans people to shine, to defy the expectations pf what we are supposed to be or look like or do. We are just now beginning to grasp the idea that we might be able to leave as people rather than trans people, and I am extremely proud to be part of a generation that is challenging everything.” – Virginia Ice
