A bunch of amazing self-portraits by New York based artist, J. Carino.
“This is a series of self-portraits that I’ve been creating, thinking about sexuality and anonymity. Although the drawings can make me feel very exposed, there is always the freedom in that it remains anonymous because it’s a drawing and not a photograph. I’m sharing, but I’m still hiding behind lines, color, abstraction, exaggeration, and a pseudonym. It’s a way for me to explore artistically, without having the pressure of having it attached to who I am in my day-to-day life. I think for a lot of queer people, there is a dichotomy of wanting to be seen as a whole person, sexuality included, but also the fear of people seeing too much.” – J. Carino
