Michał Sokołowski is an architect from Poland, but mostly involved in interior design for a while. He been working on really nice projects but couldn’t find a freedom in designing like he can in art now. Used to paint when he was younger – nudes also included- but when he had started studying, he stopped painting. He did regret that as long as he found out what linocut is. During his architect job he needed some space to create his own things, something what is absolutely his and fits with his heart and his imagination. That all he found in linocut. He started his printmaking with the 2018 beginning and totally fell in love with it.
“My first series is about a male nudity and plants. I found this combination inspiring because I love plants and I see a male body as beautiful shapes, lines, arcs and simply find it sexy 😉 I picked most of my models via IG- just realised that particular shots give me an idea to create my own graphic- like sudden inspiration;) I simplified shapes of these men and combined them with- I believe – appropriate plants. Some of them are melancholic, some are hot I guess and the other is funny :)I chose four colours for this series- each of them represents different layer of composition: white is for fabric, pink is for body, black is for hair and elements that complete a composition and gold is for plant. I create reduction linocut what means I carve every colour in the same piece of linoleum. That causes limited edition of my prints.” – Michal
