CRUISING – PART I. – ALEJANDRIA CINQUE

A few weeks ago we featured a series by Alejandro Cinque, who showed us his series ‘Cruising’ and talked about his upcoming performance. Now we are happy to feature more ‘Cruising’ and the next days we will feature pictures about the performance!

Night Trilogy

Cruising is one of the performances part of the ‘Night trilogy’, formed by three scenic performances dlivered in a black theatre room in which AlejandriaCinque, as a performer, carries out a number of actions aiming to reconsider taboo subjects connected to identity construction and body practices. This project seeks to bring what it is considered as dark realities to the general public, offering them the option of expanding horizons in the imaginary and displace fixed and, therefore, normative constructions.

The first part of the trilogy After launched in June 2016 at the Pradillo Theatre (Madrid), in April 2017 at HOME (Manchester) and in August of the same year at the Chopo Museum (Mexico D.F). After presents, through audio-visual games and live actions, my relationship with three socially rejected characters such as the junkie, the transvestite and the male prostitute. The piece is shaped as a collage of the references that have marked me in childhood: from the Spice Girls, Hustler White or the Gabber culture.

In this new scenic exercise, Alejandria aims to explore the notion of the classic figure of the devil as a universal representation of evil, drawing a cosmology that links this figure with the demonisation of homosexuality along the history of human being.

Cruising

Cruising is the second part of the ‘Night trilogy’, a forty-minutes performance that starts from the end point of After. On this occasion the public access a room with seats displayed in circle and, while they take a sit, a goat-shaped puppet inspired by the Romanian traditional style dances in the center of the scene. Other elements included in the performance such as a Berghain-style hardcore music dj-set, the performer dressed as a horned god, gif visuals of naked bodies in the forest, strobe lights, smoke and liturgical actions on stage, seek to unfold an imaginary that relates the figure of the devil with homosexuality.

CRUISING es la segunda parte de LA TRILOGÍA DE LA NOCHE compuesta por tres piezas escénicas que desvelan las diferentes experiencias que construyen la sexualidad del sujeto marica. Este segundo capítulo parte desde el punto final de la pieza AFTER, cuando los cuerpos ya están inyectados y buscan lugares oscuros en los que encontrarse. La performance se vertebra a través de un dj set que a modo litúrgico revela el bestiario que acecha durante cada anochecer en Casa de Campo.
