Happy to feature outtakes of a beautiful black and white series ‘Improvisations’ by analogue photographer Joël Alain Dervaux. All of the pictures are made according to the silver process.
“For the last years, I have taken photographs with a traditional approach to film, luminous inscribing on a delicate surface, and the subject. Portraits were always essential to me. Some of the first faces I took photographs of close-up stayed with me as a reference for my questioning as an artist. Photography has thus become the preferred tool for my personal quest, enabling my encounters. I also work in a specific way to create a new area of freedom. Men and women leave their footprint and take the risk of revealing their inner self, and surrender the mark of desire to my eye, within the boundaries of a permanent, never-changing place.” -Joel
“It’s important that it should always be in the same place. They come, they undress, and I am then allowed to record the moving outlines of their moods and their swaying gestures freely on film. The light varies according to the time of day and seasons. The result is an emotional timeline frozen on large sheets of paper. At that moment in time, the act of photography is almost incidental.” – Joël
