Daniel does not talk much, but through his painting we can enter his very special fantasy. Happy to introduce and publish an interview with Spanish artist – Daniel El Dibujo. How did you get interested in art?
It’s always been. When I was a child, I spent all day drawing and coloring books. I also made my own cut-outs and models of cardboard houses.
When do you know a picture is done?
In my case there comes a time when I look at the work and I don’t think I need more. There are also times when I don’t feel like working on something anymore and I move on to something else.
Red is a constant color in your paintings and on your selfies too. What red means to you?
Red usually means passion and love. In my case it represents the destruction of love and passion of my self.
Do you work on an impulse or develop an idea first?
I almost always work without a sketch or previous idea. I like to have a lot of blank papers and try with spots or the first thing I imagine. My work owes a lot to chance. Sometimes I do think and work with a previous idea.
Is there any living artist who you admire?
Yes, I’m fascinated by Hockney’s work. I also really like the work of lesser-known artists that I discover on social networks. For example Bran Solo, Rubenimichi or Los Bravú.
What attracts you from Madrid or generally from Spain?
The truth is that I’m not attached to any city, except Madrid. The only thing I like about Spain is the climate and the quality of life compared to other countries.
What makes you to use your paintbrush? A chest, nose, eyes…?
Painting and drawing is more than my job.
It’s the best way I can express myself and define myself. It’s also my way of relating to the world and manifesting what I love or hate.
Do you do anything else creative outside of painting?
I am continuously researching new artistic techniques. Now I’m doing a lot of collage and at the same time I mix it with photography, another one of my hobbies.
In the name of many, I’d like to thank you strip down on your insta feed. Are you an exhibitionist?
I think I am. But I am very clear about what I want to show in each of the photographs. That’s why it’s hard for me to pose for other people. Instagram is a huge supermarket of muscular meat, but I pretend to be more than that.
What is your goal for this year as a painter and/or as a person?
The last few years have been frenetic in terms of work. I’ve done a lot of exhibitions and got involved in other projects as well. This year I have taken it easy and I want to work quietly, without deadlines or commitments.
What is the next for you to do today?
Paint or draw. It’s the only thing I never get tired of.
And just the most important question at the end. What is the secret behind your perfect bubble butt?
Ceci n’est pas un cul.
¿Cómo se interesó por el arte?
Siempre he estado conectado con el arte. Cuando era niño, pasaba todo el día dibujando y coloreando libros. También hacía mis propios recortes y modelos de casas de cartón.
¿Cuándo sabes que una obra está lista?
En mi caso llega un momento en que miro el trabajo y no creo que necesite más. También hay momentos en los que ya no tengo ganas de trabajar en algo y paso a otra cosa.
El rojo es un color constante en sus pinturas y en sus selecciones también. ¿Qué significa el rojo para ti?
El rojo suele significar pasión y amor. En mi caso representa la pasión y la destrucción que provoca el amor.
¿Trabaja por impulso o desarrolla una idea primero?
Casi siempre trabajo sin un boceto ni una idea previa. Me gusta tener muchos papeles en blanco y crear a partir manchas o lo primero que imagino. Mi trabajo debe mucho al azar. A veces pienso y trabajo con una idea preconcebida.
¿Hay algún artista vivo al que admires?
Sí, me fascina el trabajo de Hockney. También me gusta mucho el trabajo de artistas menos conocidos que descubro en las redes sociales. Por ejemplo, Bran Solo, Rubenimichi o Los Bravú.
¿Qué te atrae de Madrid o de España en general?
La verdad es que no estoy apegado a ninguna ciudad, menos aún a Madrid. Lo único que me gusta de España es el clima y la calidad de vida en comparación con otros países.
¿Qué te hace usar tu pincel? ¿Un pecho, nariz, ojos…?
Pintar y dibujar es más que mi trabajo.
Es la mejor manera de expresarme y definirme. También es mi manera de relacionarme con el mundo y de manifestar lo que amo u odio.
¿Haces algo más creativo fuera de la pintura?
Estoy continuamente investigando nuevas técnicas artísticas. Ahora estoy haciendo mucho collage y al mismo tiempo lo mezclo con la fotografía, otra de mis aficiones.
En nombre de muchos, me gustaría que se despojara de su insta feed. ¿Eres un exhibicionista?
Creo que lo soy. Pero tengo muy claro lo que quiero mostrar en cada una de las fotografías. Por eso es difícil para mí posar para otras personas. Instagram es un gran supermercado de carne muscular, pero pretendo ser más que eso.
¿Cuál es su objetivo para este año como pintor y/o como persona?
Los últimos años han sido frenéticos en términos de trabajo. He hecho muchas exposiciones y me he involucrado en otros proyectos también. Este año me lo he tomado con calma y quiero trabajar tranquilamente, sin plazos ni compromisos.
¿Qué es lo próximo que harás hoy?
Pintar o dibujar. Es lo único de lo que nunca me canso.
Y sólo la pregunta más importante al final. ¿Cuál es el secreto detrás de tu perfecto trasero de burbuja?
