JEY TALL

“A guy who never really pose makes so much better pictures. Always !” – Interview with Jey Tall.

How do you do Jey? As we know, you started to take photographs of your cat when you were a teeneager. And you said before, you took so much you had to develop many new pictures every week. Nowodays, can you be addicted to the same model? Is thereanyone you photographed several times?

Yes of course, work with people means having feelings involved. Sometimes you find somebody who catch the light in a way you want to do it over and over again. Plus the fact some people are not shy at all and open minded so when you have an idea in the middle of the afternoon, you call them baggin them to let you come and take photographs. It happends more and more often even if I prefer not going into easy things.

If yes, what makes him to be great model for you?

For me, a great model is a model who doesn’t pose. Someone with a hight opinion of himself and having lots of selfies is a big turn off for me. A guy who never really pose makes so much better pictures. Always !

How would you define the difference between digital and analogue photography?

Well, I always have questions like « how do you do for having a so specialatmosphere in your pictures ?
Then I understand they can’t say it is analog but they « see » that is different. Thats what I like. For me, the big difference is the « no retouche » thing. I really enjoy the fact what I capture is reality and only reality. You can’t fake the truth with analog.

Which is easier for you and why? Work with an ex / lover or work with a total stranger?

I love to work with people I don’t know a thing about. I even refuse to have a coffee or a « rdv in a café » with a model before a session. The less I know about the model, the best is. I need to have a kind of « seduction attraction » during a session. If I know the model too much, I dont feel the same and result will be less impressive. Well, you always have exceptions of course…. ^^

Are you the one who always carry with a camera even if you just go for a walk, or you prefer to set up, and prepare yourself before you shot?

Never prepare anything. I can’t prepare myself before a session ! I tryed to capture some pictures online thinking I can try the same but…..result is just horrible. That’s why I prefer having a session at model’s flat. Everything is new ; model and fourniture. I will be 100 % inspired and seduced. That sounds strange but being in an unconfortable situation is a plus for me.

The only thing I love and need is natural light. Thats the only thing I ask for before thinking about going to the model’s.

Is there a personal connection between you and what you are hoping to achieve through your images?

Absolutly not. I just wanna capture a moment, feel the light on a model skin and be happy to see the model’s happy face when I give him the result 5 or 6 days after the session. Most of the time, I don’t really like the result ; I need a few hours or days to appreciate it. Usually that’s the compliments of other people that makes me satisfied.

What is your opinion about in general the social media, and ’let’s share everything everywhere’ lifestyle?

Hahahah you will never ever find my face online ! I think you have your answear ^^ I only use social media to promote my art in an anonym way. I really like the fact people compliment me or wanna work with me without having seen my face before ! Today, I was working on a session with a french model in southern France. He
never asked any pictures of me before I entered his flat. Always so surprised about that, but at least, I feel like they like what I do more than who I am.

Aside of photography, what are your hobbies/passion?

I always have been drawing, taking pictures, been to museums…. I guess art a my only passion (is enjoying good wine a passion ? hahahaha) But I really am into music. In the past, I used to know all albums titles and
years, bands name, lyrics, etc… Now, I feel like music industry is going so fast I can’t control anything. I feel
old. Ho and….I love plants and flowers ; I guess I will be a great gardener in my old days ^^ Maybe to hide cute guys in the garden and pretend to have a walk to observ them.
