Henry is an Illustrator based in New York. He was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He has received his Bachelor’s Degree in Idustrial Design in Taiwan and studied Illustration at School of Visual Arts in New York.

Influenced by his identity with biculturalism as well as his family’s spiritual practice, his work often speaks for his view on homosexuality and Gender identity in relation to folk culture and  spirituality.

Where are you from?
I am originally from Taiwan. Now, I live in New York City.

Could you tell a few words about your background and what made you interested to made art?
I come from a traditional Taiwanese family. My grandmother is a very spiritual person, who has been a great influence on what I do as well as what I believe. On the other hand, being a gay man and growing up in Asia, I have grown a strong interest in the spiritual relationship between men and the physical world. Making art happens to be the way I show what goes on in my head.

How come or why do you use only watercolor? What makes watercolor so special for you?
I choose watercolor as my main medium becuase it is very organic. Drawing with watercolor is to visually record what I see. It lives in the moment.

What is the most challenging part about paint with watercolor?
Watercolor could be messy. When I draw, I try to create a systematic chaos. I think that is also what happens in my head most of the time.

What do you look for in the perfect model?
It really depends on the projects. As long as a model holds his poses and comprehences directions, I would love him.

What is your creative process like? How do you figure out what to paint next?
My approach to my creative process is to have a specific idea. Then I would figure out the best way to present the idea visually as I paint. It doesnt have to be all planned out, but I do believe that it is ensential to have clear ways of thinking. My art reflects what goes on in my head. As long as I don’t stop thinking, I would never run of out things to paint.

What is your next to do today?
To eat. I love food.

Currently obsessed for… ?
Long Johns. They are sexy and they keep me warm in winter.

Name something you like. Why?
Frozen Cosmo. It was the frist drink I had in New York.
