A FAGGOT’S DESTINY

“We’ve learned to live behind the darkest blinds, in the temple of an expelled sexuality, thinking that we’re alone and not unique. They’ve hidden us from seeing and being seen, through a heteronormative light that commands what is true, yet not just a habit. We poured ourselves into the woods to smell each other’s unprecedented lustful eyes, being taught steps of a non-lived adolescence. Until we’re left alone again, now concealed from the life that awaited for us, digging for change in our family business’s pocket to watch the shameless lives of others.

The series follows the lives of young Greek men experimenting with their sexuality in the private cabins of an adult cinema in central Athens. Hustlers, athletes, teenagers and businessmen that become one raw sexual unit under the photographer’s eye. Their core practice of love, when not seen or judged by others, is now documented from a keyhole perspective that observes yet never interferes or disturbs. Such documentation is a tribute to the once and forever thrilling pornographic era of men being used to share intimacy behind closed doors and glory holes, rather than their modern ways of untouched egos on sex apps and social media practices. Most private cabins are now closed down depending on each country’s legal authorities on health and safety measures, fading and being replaced by modern ways of sexual interaction with one’s self and others. A Faggot’s Destiny has been partially published on the anniversary republication of the legendary KRAXIMO Magazine, initially published by the trans activist and prostitute Paola Revenioti in the 1980s, and now by the Onassis Cultural Foundation of Greece. – Helias
